Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe + Review
The Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxury + is one of the best car seats for infants available. It scored high in our tests for comfort, safety, and ease of use.
Our newborn Huggable Images doll is 2 inches too short for this seat, but normal-sized newborns should be able to fit due to the lower birth weight routing and the smaller harness loops.
Safety Ratings
There are a variety of different infant car seats available on the market and they all vary from really good to not so great. Maxi cosi has been helping to keep children safe in Europe since 1984. They've brought their expertise to the US with a range of rear facing only carseats. The Mico Max Plus is their latest offering and it looks fantastic.
This seat is unique in that it can be used rear-facing for a longer time than the majority of seats. This is significant because research has proven that it's safer for babies to be rear-facing as long as they can. The Mico Max Plus can remain rear-facing for up to two years!
Another thing that makes this seat stand out is it comes with a recline feature. This feature isn't available in the majority of infant car seats, but it could help your child to sleep. The seat also offers plenty of padding, and the headrest/SIP is very nicely padded too.
The only negative with the Mico Max Plus is that it's not as simple to use as some other infant car seats. It's a bit more difficult to get the seat at the correct angle and you'll have to work a bit more to tighten the harness. It's a little bit of a learner's curve to use the LATCH anchors and tether.
Overall though, the safety ratings for this car seat are very high. It's a top performer in our crash test and it has extremely low g-forces on the head and chest of the dummy.
This seat will not last longer than other models. According to CDC charts, your child will outgrow it around age three. It's a challenge to get them up to age 5 in this seat. It has a weight limit, and a single height adjustment. At that point, you'll probably need to upgrade to a booster seat with no back or a larger seat.
